THIS HOUSE

THIS HOUSE  - WORLD PREMIERE - Starting May 31st, 2025

Opera of St.Louis  -
https://opera-stl.org/whats-on/this-house/

By: Ricky Ian Gordon, Lynn Nottage, & Ruby Aiyo Gerber

We walk in the shadows of ancestors.  A house is more than four walls and a roof — it is a      keeper of memories and a witness to legacy. The Walker family has lived in the same Harlem brownstone since the 1920s, and they have fought hard to keep what they have. When Zoe returns home after many years away, she asks her mother Ida and her brother Lindon to let her renovate the dilapidated building. But Ida and Lindon cannot let go of the past. The
house is their whole world, and every room is full of ghostly voices and
painful memories. As hidden truths about the family’s legacy come to light, Zoe begins
to realize that the secrets harbored within these walls are deeper and more profound
than she ever dared to imagine.

New York, 1905. Emmy Award winner Samira Wiley plays Esther, who sews exquisite lingerie for women from all walks of life. Successful and fiercely independent, she dreams of opening her own beauty salon, but can’t shake the longing to fall in love. When she begins to receive beautiful letters from a lonesome stranger, it looks like it could just be her ticket to happiness.
Double Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Lynn Nottage reunites with director Lynette Linton (Critics’ Circle Best Director for Blues for an Alabama Sky) for this new production of one of Nottage’s most acclaimed plays, following their sell-out productions of Sweat and Clyde’s for the Donmar.

Performs November 3-January 16, 2021
Helen Hayes Theater | Second Stage
By Lynn Nottage
Directed by Kate Whoriskey
Featuring Uzo Aduba, Ron Cephas Jones, Kara Young, Reza Salazar, Edmund Donovan
In this stirring new play from the team of two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and director Kate Whoriskey (Ruined, Sweat), a truck stop sandwich shop offers its formerly incarcerated kitchen staff a shot at reclaiming their lives. Even as the shop's callous owner tries to keep them under her thumb, the staff members are given purpose and permission to dream by their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich. You'll want a seat at the table for this funny, moving, and urgent play. It's an example of Nottage's "genius for bringing politically charged themes to life by embodying
them in ordinary characters living ordinary lives." (The Wall Street Journal)

THE WATERING HOLE

An Immersive Theatrical Experience at Signature Theatre

Conceived and Created by Lynn Nottage and Miranda Haymon
Picture
The Watering Hole deviates from the norm, presenting a new kind of theatre—one that is collaborative, accessible and safe. In-person, physically distanced audiences will move through a series of installations, entirely curated by creatives of color, at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The multidimensional and multidisciplinary pieces disrupt traditional notions of theatre-making and challenge viewers to converse with what is most essential to us all, water. Excerpts from the in-person experience will also be available online, in order to bring The Watering Hole to as far an audience as possible. The Watering Hole culminates Lynn's Residency 1 at Signature Theatre.
Created in Partnership With: Christina Anderson, Matt Barbot, Montana Levi Blanco,  Stefania Bulbarella, Amith Chandrashaker, nicHi douglas, Iyvon E., Justin Ellington, Emmie Finckel, Vanessa German, Ryan J. UNFINISHED: DEEP SOUTH

Picture
Unfinished: Deep South is a historical true-crime podcast that races to resolve the unfinished business of a small Arkansas town by starting with one question: who lynched Isadore Banks? Sixty-five years after the murder of a wealthy African-American farmer and WWI veteran who found a way to prosper in the Jim Crow South, this series attempts to restore his legacy and solve the crime before the story goes cold forever. My company Market Road Films is proud to be  part of the producing team. Created and reported by Taylor Hom and Neil Shea.
